The most awesomest thing ever: Prof. Layton vs. Phoenix Wright

OMG!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! It’s as if they made a Godzilla vs. King Kong or Superman vs. Spiderman or… Ok, I should stop trying to make comparisons right now.

So, in reality crossovers tend to suck, and for every Batman and Superman we get tons of Mighty Morphing Power Rangers vs. Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles. And, let’s face it, the idea of mixing up these two game franchises sounds as awesome as terrifying.

More after the jump!

Let’s go for the awesome bit first: Prof. Layton and Phoenix Wright series are two of the most rich franchises for the current generation Nintendo DS. For those of you that don’t know them, they’re both big favs among Nintendo fans. Prof. Layton deals with its eponymous character’s adventures throughout a fictional England, where he has to solve a series of puzzles to advance through a plot. It’s a series of smart and challenging games, with some of the most charming storylines in the media. Phoenix Wright, on the other hand, puts you in the skin of lawyer who must interrogate witnesses and present evidence in order to absolve the innocent and put the guilty behind bars. It’s a hell lot funnier than it sounds, and having one of the best and most hilarious writing since Tim Schafer does help my verdict.

And that’s exactly what’s terrifying: even when both games have a strong emphasis on storytelling, they also have strictly different styles. How would you merge the minimalistic, fantasy-driven, steam-punkish, 19th century England-esque shenanigans of Layton with the loud, over the top, interrogation-fest adventures of Phoenix Wright? Only time will tell how Level-5 (and Capcom? won't they be involved in this?) will solve this out.

Here at Okam we’ll keep an eye open and hope for the best.
